Drawing to Learn: Figure Study as Still Life
• Tuesday afternoons: June 5, 12, 19, 26 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
• Wednesday afternoons: June 6, 13, 20, 27, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Tuition: $80
Working from plaster casts and a full-sized skeleton, students will be guided through the key points of figurative anatomy that are the hallmarks of accurate figure drawings as works of art. Although drawing from the live model is an essential component to learn figure drawing, using inspiration and information from plaster casts and the skeleton is an important learning companion to figure artists of all skill levels. The casts—facial features, the Venus face, a full figure cast showing accurate musculature, and a full sized skeleton—can be viewed as still life inspiration. The student is temporarily freed from the challenges of working from the live model and can use the masters' practice of creating beautiful study vignettes as finished works of art.
Pastel or Oil Figure Painting to Learn: Using Photographic Reference to Paint the Figure
• Three-Day Class: June 14, 15, 16 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
Tuition: $120
This class will be instruction in painting the face and head using proper techniques of photo reference. Students will be guided through proper photoshoot techniques by photographing fellow students in the first class session. Students have the option of using the results of those photoshoots as reference for subsequent paintings they do in class, or using the photography techniques at home and bringing in the results to use as reference. Bringing a digital camera is preferred, but not required; photo reference can be provided in class for those who don't have access to their own camera.
